A certain Ishtar Collective researcher has been all over Destiny 2 background lore for the game’s entire run.

Here’s what you gotta know about her.

Her appearance is a pretty big deal.

The Ishtar Collective first discovered and studied the Vex on Venus, before realizing how dangerous they were.

So Who Is Maya Sundaresh, Anyway?

Later, it came to light that most or all of the copies were recaptured by the Vex.

We’ve seen evidence of the Sundaresh copies at work in the world in a couple of places.

We can intuit that those strange asset archives found in the Enigma Protocol activity are places Sundaresh calls home within the Vex network.

Kargen’s attempts were blocked by another user, MSund12–a Maya Sundaresh copy.

That included the machines meant to provide Clovis' failing body with donor organs.

We do have some idea of what the real Sundaresh was doing, though.

Turns out, the power-hungry schemer Lakshmi-2 was a copy of Maya Sundaresh, with at least some of her memories.

She would later study the Ahamkara, employing the original Exo version of Cayde-6 as a bodyguard.

And she helped develop the future-seeing machine that led to the formation of the Future War Cult.

There, they waited out the apocalypse that ravaged the rest of the solar system.

The Conductor, a version of Maya Sundaresh and apparently Lakshmi-2, threatening to turn everyone into goo.

Studying it became an obsession.

But those early experiments proved fatal, killing any normal humans connected to the Veil.
