Showrunner Craig Mazin said in an interview that Season 2 will not follow the timeline of the game exactly.
“I will just say that we gave it a lot of thought and tried different things.
There are some deviations of where we place things.”

Mazin previously said heanticipates “furor” over Season 2 and the departures from the game.
“We don’t operate to either make people happy on social media or avoid making them upset.
The Last of Us Season 2 debuts this April on HBO and Max.
A specific release date hasn’t been announced yet.
