And what a Final Act it was.
I know in my rational mind it didn’t, but where did those months go?
Why didn’t I feel them in the way I normally would?
I think I have an inkling why.
I felt it while watching an orchestral performance of Baldur’s Gate 3 at the weekend.
There was a large choir and full orchestra and it gave oomph to the dramatic music from the game.
I saw people milling around in The Last of Us T-shirts when I arrived.
So I expected much of this.
Remember what the event itself was: an orchestral performance by the Philharmonia Orchestra.
You see, it wasn’t just the orchestra of note in the room that evening.
Sitting in the middle of the auditorium were a handful of actors from the game.
Excited applause began to interrupt the changing of movements, where there would usually be only a silent pause.
As his hand snapped shut and the orchestra played its final note, the pent up energy poured out.
But that wasn’t all.
But the main performance had come and gone and we hadn’t heard the song.
Cut back to Slavov, now cutting his own applause short.
“Hold your applause!”
Weren’t they the same words Raphael says in the song?
Understanding began to ripple around the auditorium.
Then, Slavov confirmed it: “Down comes the claw!”
Suffice to say what had begun as a relatively reserved affair was now more like a carnival in atmosphere.
Even the conductor seemed to be enjoying himself, squished as he was between several people amongst the violins.
Happy chaos, it was.
Did you like our little surprise?
Wherever the cavalcade goes, an unprecedented amount of love seems to gush out for it.
It’s not like he could have predicted the reaction the game got, though - who could have?
The power of Baldur’s Gate 3 was never more apparent than at that concert this past weekend.
