Some leading developers apparently haven’t bought into Game Pass.
Microsoft reportedly considered completely shutting down Xbox in 2021, prior to its acquisition of ZeniMax and Activision Blizzard.
That same year, Nadella was quoted assayingthat “as a company, Microsofts all-in on gaming.”
However, Microsoft has reportedly been unable to hit Game Pass internal growth targets in the past two years.
This was based on total players, total hours played, and total matches played.
In July of 2024, Nadellaconfirmedthat the gaming division as a whole had 500 million monthly active users.
Microsoft also reportedly wanted other developers to rent its Azure servers after the Activision acquisition.
