Nintendo’s critically-acclaimed Nintendo Switch adventureMetroid Dreadlooks to have become the series' best-selling game.

The originalMetroid Primeon GameCube had previously been the series' biggest seller, which Dread has now dethroned.

Metroid Dread has now shifted 2.9m copies worldwide since its launch in October last year.

Metroid Prime was previously reported to have sold 2.8m.

Kirby: The Forgotten Land sold 2.1m copies in just its first week.

It’s also interesting to note the location of Dread’s sales.

Of its 2.9m total to date, just 270k copies have been sold in Japan compared to 2.63m elsewhere.

Kirby: The Forgotten Land has already sold 850k in Japan, compared to 1.80m elsewhere.

Today’s news comes fromNintendo’s latest financial results.

Sales of the Switch itself were down compared to last year - for which Nintendo blamed component shortages.
