Scouts can be used to scan areas on the world map, provided that you’re tracking a quest objective.

A couple of helpers also join up as part of an early-game encounter.

These then act as fast travel points, complementing landmarks/viewpoints–i.e.

the usual fast travel spots–in the vicinity.

The Kakurega building in your hideout grants your first scout.

New scout recruits

After a quick tutorial about the hideout, you’ll control Naoe once more.

Upon leaving your base, you’ll come across a couple of NPCs by the roadside.

Speak with them and have them join your cause.

The Study building and further upgrades provide extra scouts as well.

This action nets you +2 scouts.
